SEA Group Ltd has announced that the ROADflow mobile enforcement system has obtained Department for Transport (DfT) certification for the unattended operation of parking enforcement in the Bournemouth Borough Council area. Bournemouth Borough Council will now operate ROADflow to tackle dangerous and inconsiderate parking outside schools, at pedestrian crossings and at bus stops. SEA believes that this is the only mobile certified enforcement system operating in England in unattended mode. Certification by the DfT will make it much easier for other councils to readily adopt this new technique.
The system is loaded with the geographic locations, traffic regulation orders and the times of enforcement zones and is housed in a dedicated vehicle. The vehicle will patrol streets and automatically capture evidence packs of probable parking offences.
Jon Hargroves, SEA’s Transport Business Director, commented: “We are delighted this innovative and versatile system has achieved full certification, this will enable other councils to follow Bournemouth’s example and use the ROADflow Mobile Vision system.”
Councillor Robert Lawton, cabinet member for Environment & Transport said: “Bournemouth is committed to making every effort to improve safety, especially for children outside schools and to ensure that bus stops are kept clear of stopped vehicles to ensure buses can reach the stop. This system offers proven benefits to residents and businesses alike by reducing the number of road accidents, especially children, improving the reliability of the bus service, reducing the impact and congestion and consequently improving the environment for everybody”. Some may see this measure as a means of taxing the motorist, but this could not be further from the truth. We will be delighted if we issue no penalties at all as it will mean drivers are following the Traffic Regulation Orders and parking responsibly.”
Gerry Bolland of Bournemouth Borough Council expressed his delight at the certification for unattended operation in Bournemouth being granted and was looking forward to deploying the system as soon as possible.
